News — For the heart to beat in a coordinated way, heart cells have to be connected by gap channels called gap junctions, of which the connexin43 protein is an important component. New research has helped uncover how connexin43 gets to the borders between cells, finding that a shorter form of the protein binds to actin to organize cytoskeleton “highways” upon which full-length connexin43 travels.
