麻豆传媒 — Roger Daltrey, a passionate advocate for teens and young adults with cancer, announced Monday that Kimberly, Reid and Neil Perry of the Grammy Award-winning trio The Band Perry will serve as one of Teen Cancer America鈥檚 national ambassadors. The announcement was made in a press conference prior to The Who鈥檚 Nashville show at the Bridgestone Arena.

"How great it is to have The Band Perry giving their support to Teen Cancer America,鈥 said Daltrey. 鈥淗opefully they will be the first of many of today鈥檚 young musicians to recognize the lack of common comfort space in hospitals for this age group suffering from this disease where they can be together with their peers. The passion that Kimberly, Reid, and Neil show for our cause is so heartening to see. I am honored to have them as ambassadors for our cause.鈥

Teen Cancer America is a nationally recognized non-profit dedicated to transforming the lives of teens and young adults with cancer. Modeled after Teenage Cancer Trust, an organization supported by Roger Daltrey and Pete Townshend in the UK, Teen Cancer America partners with major cancer centers and hospitals in the United States to guide the development of specialized facilities and services to better serve and improve outcomes for young people between the ages of 13 and 25 with a cancer diagnosis.

The Band Perry made their first official appearance as Ambassadors earlier in the day when they visited Vanderbilt University Medical Center, which was just announced as Teen Cancer America鈥檚 eleventh and newest hospital partner.

鈥淲e鈥檙e excited about being named national ambassadors for Teen Cancer America. Since many of our fans are teenagers, we have wanted to work with a non-profit that caters to them, and Teen Cancer America is a perfect fit,鈥 said The Band Perry. 鈥淎lready facing challenging issues in life, teens with cancer often get lost in the shuffle and we want to support them in any way we can including: meeting and encouraging young people with cancer across the country; advocating for them; and raising awareness for Teen Cancer America and the programs that can help them live their lives as normally as possible.

Members of the band also spoke with several teens and young adults with cancer, including Laura Crawford, Jordan Smith and Reece King at the announcement event. 鈥淟aura, Jordan, and Reece shared their stories with us about their heartbreaking battles with cancer and their treatment and we were blown away by their courage, strength, and spirit,鈥 added the family trio.

鈥淲e鈥檙e thrilled to have The Band Perry as national ambassadors,鈥 said Simon Davies, executive director of Teen Cancer America. 鈥淭eens and young adults have been the 鈥榣ost tribe鈥 when it comes to cancer services. Kimberly, Reid, and Neil will help put the spotlight on them and the issues.鈥

THE WHO have sold over 100 million records since forming in 1964; they brought together four different personalities and in effect produced a musical hurricane. Each of them was a pioneer. Wildman drummer Keith Moon beat his kit with a chaotic elegance; stoic bassist John Entwistle held down the center with the melodic virtuosity of a solo guitarist; raging intellectual Pete Townshend punctuated the epic universality of his songs with the windmill slamming of his fingers across his guitar strings; and Roger Daltrey roared above it all with an impossibly virile macho swagger. They exploded conventional rhythm and blues structures, challenged pop music conventions, and redefined what was possible on stage, in the recording studio, and on vinyl. As they enter their 50th year, the band is still going strong, winning rave reviews for their performances of QUADROPHENIA in 2013.
