News — The Association of American Cancer Institutes (AACI) extends its deep appreciation to Monica Bertagnolli, MD, for her exemplary leadership and unwavering support of cancer research as director of the National Institutes of Health (NIH). Dr. Bertagnolli has , effective January 17.

As head of both NIH and, previously, the National Cancer Institute, Dr. Bertagnolli applied more than thirty 30 years of experience as a cancer surgeon, physician, and researcher to the task of improving the health of all Americans. From clinical trials and precision medicine to the Biden Cancer Moonshot and federal programs mapping the contours of cancer research, Dr. Bertagnolli’s understanding of the value of scientific discovery has guided her work.

AACI wishes Dr. Bertagnolli the greatest success in her future endeavors, and it looks forward to continued collaboration with her and the next director of NIH. As an association representing over 100 leading academic cancer centers in the U.S. and Canada, AACI enjoys a longstanding relationship with federal agencies that support of our shared goals of accelerating scientific progress and promoting health equity.
