Paul Bruski's research encompasses graphic design practice and education, information design, mapping, cultural iconography, visual literacy, beer branding and design, motion graphics, and experiential graphic design. His expertise in graphic design and cultural iconography combines with his knowledge of historical context and current events to provide insight into popular and viral images.

Architect Alison Kwok's research looks at adaptive and mitigation strategies for climate change, materials and carbon, thermal comfort, natural ventilation in tropical schools, building performance post-occupancy evaluation, zero net energy strategies and building energy metrics. She believes that the integration of these architectural issues yields better buildings. 

Kwok is a professor in the Department of Architecture at the University of Oregon. She is the Director of the Technical Teaching Certificate program, the NetZED Laboratory, and is co-director of the Ph.D. program.
Kwok's current research examines "carbon narratives" with a grant from the TallWood Design Institute and schools research on teaching and learning with the California School Facilities Research Institute. She has guided projects with the Northwest Energy Efficiency Alliance; US Green Building Council (USGBC), Passive House Institute US, American Society of Heating Refrigeration and Air-Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE), American Institute of Architects (AIA) and was principal investigator of the Agents of Change project, funded by the U.S. Department of Education Fund for the Improvement of Post-Secondary Education (FIPSE). She has served as board member for the Architectural Research Centers Consortium; past-president of the Society of Building Science Educators; member of several ASHRAE committees; and the USGBC鈥檚 Formal Education Committee. Her students have also participated with her in design charrettes, workshops, and presentations in China, England, Japan, Korea, and Singapore.

Kwok's publications include Mechanical and Electrical Equipment for Buildings, 13th ed. (with co-author Walter Grondzik) affectionately known as 鈥淢EEB鈥� a preeminent teaching and practice reference for building environmental control systems. The Green Studio Handbook 3rd ed. (also co-authored with Walter Grondzik) provides forty-three selected environmental strategies including a description of principles and concepts, step-by-step procedures for integrating the strategy, and 10 case studies demonstrating how it all goes together. Passive House Details: Solutions for High Performance Design, introduces the concepts, principles, and design processes of building ultralow-energy buildings.

Dr. Deana McDonagh is a professor of industrial design in the School of Art and Design at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. She is also a Health Innovation Professor at the Carle Illinois College of Medicine at UIUC, a , and the founder of the  at the Beckman Institute, which supports interdisciplinary design research centered around the lived experiences of people with disabilities. In 2022, McDonagh won the  for exemplifying excellence and interdisciplinary research collaboration.
As an empathic design research strategist, she focuses on enhancing the quality of life for all through more intuitive and meaningful products, leading to emotional sustainability. Her research concentrates on emotional user-product relationships and how empathy can bring the designer closer to users’ authentic needs, ensuring both functional and emotional needs are met the material landscape.
She is the Designer Entrepreneur-in-Residence (start-up incubator) at the University of Illinois Research Park and the Designer in Residence at the Beckman Institute for Advanced Science and Technology, where she provides design guidance.

Dr. Paul Crovella is an Assistant Professor at the SUNY College of Environmental Science and Forestry (ESF) in Syracuse, New York. The focus of his teaching, research, and service is Sustainable Construction and Construction Management. 
He is an expert in mass timber construction and the use of bio-based and low-carbon materials in buildings as an alternative to carbon-intense construction. Crovella develops informative databases to enhance the sustainability of current construction and lessen the environmental burden of renovating buildings. He also develops non-invasive tools for sampling wood structures, allowing their continued use by generations to come.

Randall Teal, a Professor and Head of the Architecture Program at the University of Idaho, is a writer, teacher, painter and designer. Randall has taught at University of Oregon, Southern University, and at Tampere University in Finland; he is the Owner and Principal of Teal Studio which specializes in small-scale design interventions. Randall’s pedagogical and research interests are in design fundamentals and architectural theory with a significant influence from Continental thought; he teaches theory courses and architectural design studios at all levels. His writing focuses primarily on the pedagogy of creative thinking and aims to understand and promote situated dialogue between critical architectural thinking and the built environment.
