Chair of the Department of Nutrition and the curriculum creator/ co-faculty lead for the Jack, Joseph, Morton Mandel Wellness & Preventive Care Pathway for medical students. The Pathway introduces medical students to stress reduction techniques, social well-being habits, nutrition, lifestyle and culinary medicine. In 2018 the Pathway received national recognition and an award for Innovation in Teaching future health care professionals from the Alliance for a Healthier Generation. Teaching awards include the 2019 Outstanding Dietetic Educator from Nutrition Dietetics Education Professionals and the Ohio Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics, Top Prof, and the John S. Diekhoff Graduate Award for teaching excellence from CWRU. Advanced training includes Culinary Coaching from Harvard University and the Institute for Lifestyle Medicine and advanced training in culinary arts. Countless culinary & nutrition educational sessions for students, consumers and professional audiences have been presented, including for 鈮 300 attendees recently at the Academy鈥檚 national Food, Nutrition and Exhibition. Research experience ranges from the design of nutrition, food and culinary intervention studies; nutrition counseling of culturally diverse populations; competency in body composition techniques, respiratory calorimetry, energy balance determinations, nutritional status and dietary assessments, protein analyses, use of mass spec and stable isotopes for metabolic research. Several funded NIH research interventions have focused on manipulating the types of dietary carbohydrates and dietary glycemic index to achieve greater control of glucose response and substrate utilization using the dietary intervention I have created. I have significant expertise in collaborating with investigators across several disciplines. He is an experienced Civil Engineer, Chartered Builder and Researcher with 28 years鈥 experience of all aspects of construction, including contracting, consultancy and research. Authored books include Design in Modular Construction and the RICS Future of UK Housebuilding, and he is an international expert witness for offsite/modular construction. He was recently invited to give evidence in person to the UK government鈥檚 Housing, Communities and Local Government Committee inquiry into MMC. More recently he has been researching old/aged RAAC (Reinforced autoclaved aerated concrete), including its structural performance and durability, in particular in NHS hospitals. He worked previously for Laing O鈥橰ourke Civil Engineering and BRE and was the Lead Expert for construction on the UK Government鈥檚 Foresight Sustainable Energy Management and the Built Environment futures project.

Amanda鈥檚 work is focused on investigating the effects of lifestyle interventions on health outcomes, particularly around women鈥檚 health. She has published work focused on pregnancy, postnatal depression and menopause. She is the chief investigator on several on-going trials that are examining the effectiveness of community and general practice-based physical activity and weight control interventions. Amanda has published extensively in the field of physical activity and health. She is most interested in conducting randomised controlled trials but she also has a strong interest in conducting systematic reviews and interrogating large datasets.

Owen graduated with an MRes in tissue engineering and regenerative medicine from the University of Manchester. He subsequently completed a PhD at the University of Birmingham that sought to compare the efficacy of stem cells isolated from adipose, bone marrow and dental pulp for the regeneration of mineralised tissues. In 2016 Owen was awarded a competitive EPSRC E-TERM fellowship in collaboration with the University of Birmingham where he worked as an honorary visiting fellow in the School of Chemical Engineering with Professor Liam Grover. During his fellowship he pioneered the application of cell-derived nanoparticles, termed extracellular vesicles (EVs), for musculoskeletal therapies. In April 2018 Owen was appointed as a lecturer in Molecular and Regenerative Biomedicine under the Loughborough Excellence 100 scheme. He was promoted to Senior Lecturer in 2021.

Abigail is an expert in living standards in the UK, particularly relating to the Minimum Income Standard, which informs the setting of the voluntary Living Wage, and also works with teams in other countries helping them to develop budget standards. She is able to discuss the effects of low income on household living standards for different groups in society and what public consensus agrees is needed for everyone in society to be able to have a decent quality of life.
