Rochester, Minn. (April 7, 2025) - The American Association of Neuromuscular & Electrodiagnostic Medicine (AANEM) is excited to announce Crystal Yeo, MB BChir, PhD, as the 2025 Surinderjit Singh Young Lectureship Award recipient. The American Neuromuscular Foundation (ANF) established the award after receiving a donation in honor of the late, longtime AANEM member Surinderjit Singh, MD, to recognize young professionals who demonstrate promise in the neuromuscular (NM) field.
Candidates submit their applications for the Surinderjit Singh Young Lectureship Award each year. The award winner must have a lectureship topic that aligns with the AANEM Annual Meeting theme and present their lecture as a plenary speaker. This year’s plenary topic, Back to the Future: Advances in Neuromuscular Medicine, was chosen by 2025 AANEM and ANF president Faye Tan, MD. Dr. Yeo will join five other plenary speakers in San Francisco, California, Oct. 29-Nov. 1, 2025, at the annual meeting to present her lecture, “Translational Applications in Precision Medicine: AI-Driven Biomarker Discovery and Stem Cell Modelling in Motor Neuron Diseases.
"Dr. Yeo aims to emphasize the role of AI-driven biomarker discovery in amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), Clustered Regularly Interspaced Short Palindromic Repeats (CRISPR) applications, and multi-organ research in spinal muscular atrophy (SMA). She will illustrate how precision medicine can drive immediate improvements in patient care. “I hope my lecture can bridge the gap between cutting-edge science and real-world clinical applications, showing how these technologies can directly improve patient outcomes,” says Dr. Yeo.
