News — Baylor Scott & White Medical Center – Waxahachie was awarded the Magnet with Distinction® for nursing excellence from the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC), the world's largest and most prominent nurse credentialing organization. The hospital is one of only 17 hospitals worldwide recognized among the highest- performing Magnet® organizations, a testament to its continued dedication to quality nursing practice. This is the hospital’s second time to be designated as a Magnet® organization.
This recognition is the gold standard for nursing excellence and provides patients with confidence that they will receive quality care at these facilities. The designation involves a rigorous and lengthy process that requires widespread participation from hospital leadership and care team members. It also includes a highly detailed on-site review by ANCC surveyors, who are national nursing experts. Ultimately, the designation goes to organizations where nursing leaders successfully align nursing strategic goals to improve patient experience.
“Magnet® recognition is a tremendous honor and reflects our commitment to delivering quality care to this community,” said Elizabeth Ortiz, vice president and chief nursing officer of Baylor Scott & White – Waxahachie. “To earn Magnet® recognition once was a great accomplishment and an incredible source of pride for our nurses. Our repeated achievement of this credential underscores the foundation of excellence and values that drives our entire staff to strive harder each day to meet the healthcare needs of the people we serve.”
Services provided by Baylor Scott & White – Waxahachie include women's health services, cancer care, interventional radiology, wound care services, inpatient dialysis and a Level II neonatal intensive care unit. The organization has received accreditation for specialty programs and recognition for quality patient care and service excellence, including The Joint Commission Advanced Primary Stroke Center 2023, American Academy of Pediatrics: Level II NICU 2023, ANCC Magnet® Designation 2020, Press Ganey Pinnacle of Excellence Award 2020, Press Ganey Guardian of Excellence Award 2019, The Joint Commission Hospital Accreditation, CMS 5-star hospital, and Commission on Cancer Accreditation, among others.
“We are so proud to receive this prestigious distinction," said Will Turner, president, Baylor Scott & White – Waxahachie. "We are committed to quality, patient outcome-driven care in support of our mission to serve this community."
Research demonstrates that Magnet® recognition provides specific benefits to healthcare organizations and their communities, such as:
ï‚· Higher patient satisfaction with nurse communication, availability of help and receipt of discharge information.
ï‚· Fewer reports of nurses planning to leave their positions.
"Our teams are at the heart of our ability to provide quality care," Ortiz said. "These are expert team members and we are honored to be a place where they can live out their commitment and calling to serve our community."
