ALMA Reveals Planets Can Form Under Harsh Radiation

New observations from the Atacama Large Millimeter/submillimeter Array (ALMA) suggest that planet formation can occur even in harsh stellar environments previously thought to be inhospitable.An international team of astronomers used ALMA to capture high-resolution images of eight protoplanetary disks in the Sigma Orionis cluster, which is irradiated by intense ultraviolet light from a massive nearby star.

The American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons (AAOS) announced 30 recipients of the 2025 AAOS IDEA Grant Program庐, which aims to reduce existing disparities in orthopaedics and foster visible and measurable change in the field. The recipients were selected based on the merits of their initiatives to reduce bias and discriminatory practices or advance diversity, equity, and/or inclusion (DEI) within the orthopaedic specialty. Since its launch in 2022, the AAOS IDEA Grant Program has helped fund nearly 75 programs across the country, contributing over $900,000 to date.

The data on the results of the RP-A501 Phase 1 trial, presented at a late breaking session today at the American Heart Association Scientific Sessions 2024 in Chicago, were also published in the New England Journal of Medicine.
