The director of Health Law at Creighton University, Kelly Dineen, is available to talk about the DOJ suing Philadelphia over the opening of a supervised injection facility.
"The Department of justice has sued Philadelphia to prevent them from opening a center to prevent overdoses. These centers are widespread in Canada and other countries and have a well documented record of saving lives and reducing harm associated with substance use disorders," says Dineen. "However, current federal law also could make their activity illegal. The law needs to catch up with science and evidence here and it is disappointing that the justice department is wasting valuable resources on this prosecution."
