What鈥檚 the rest? Dark matter and dark energy, the invisible stuff occupying most of the universe, are among the most vexing puzzles in physics today.
On March 2, join theoretical cosmologist Katherine Freese as she discusses the theories physicists are employing to decode these pervasive but elusive forms of matter and energy.
The lecture, titled 鈥淭he Dark Side of the Universe,鈥� is part of the , and will be webcast live Wednesday March 2 at 7 PM EST on the Perimeter Institute website and via partner organizations.
Freese鈥檚 research touches on a wide range of topics in theoretical cosmology and astroparticle physics. She is particularly interested in identifying the dark matter and dark energy, as well as building a successful model for the early universe immediately after the big bang.
The George E. Uhlenbeck Professor of Physics at the University of Michigan, Freese also recently completed a term as the Director of Nordita 鈥� the Institute for Theoretical Physics of the Nordic countries in Stockholm. She has been a fellow or visiting professor at physics organizations around the world, including the Kavli Institute for Theoretical Physics, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, CERN, the Max Planck Institute, and Perimeter Institute. Freese is also a Fellow of the American Physical Society.
Following her talk, Freese will answer questions from the online and in-house audience 鈥� including questions submitted prior to and during the talk via and (using the hashtag #piLIVE). Questions are welcomed from everyone 鈥� aspiring scientific explorers, school classes, physics buffs, and general science enthusiasts.
