CUR congratulates Amelia Ahern-Rindell (University of Portland) and Winny Dong (California State Polytechnic University 鈥� Pomona) as they are appointed a 2025 CUR Fellow. Drs. Ahern-Rindell and Dong are to be honored for their leadership and service as role models for those involved in undergraduate research, scholarship, and creative activities.
CUR has selected the city of Richmond, VA to hold the 2026 National Conference on Undergraduate Research (NCUR). In partnership with Virginia Commonwealth University, NCUR 2026 will be an opportunity for undergraduate students and their mentors from around the world to present their research, celebrate their successes, and prepare for the future.
CUR congratulates its 2024 Campus-Wide Award for Undergraduate Research Accomplishments (AURA) awardees: St. Catherine University (St. Kate鈥檚) (Saint Paul, MN) and West Virginia University (WVU) (Morgantown, WV). This award recognizes institutions with exemplary programs that provide high-quality research experiences for undergraduates. A celebration of these awardees will take place on June 10, virtually. Now in its tenth year, the AURA award draws on CUR鈥檚 Characteristics of Excellence in Undergraduate Research (COEUR), which outlines criteria for exceptional undergraduate research, scholarship, and creative activity programs. For AURA recognition, campuses must demonstrate depth and breadth in their undergraduate research initiatives and evidence of continual innovation. Institutions of different Carnegie classifications are considered for the award.
These STR graduates completed a multi-month program aimed at developing their communication and advocacy skills which will empower them to convey the importance and impact of undergraduate research, scholarship, and creative inquiry experiences.

Dr. Karina Elizabeth V谩zquez, Community-Based Learning Director in the Department of Latin America, Latino, & Iberian Studies at the University of Richmond, has been selected as the 2024 Council on Undergraduate Research 鈥� Arts and Humanities Faculty Mentor Awardee.
Dr. John Anderson, W.H. Drury Professor of Ecology and Natural History at College of the Atlantic (COA) in Bar Harbor, ME, has been selected as the 2024 Council on Undergraduate Research 鈥� Goldwater Scholars Faculty Mentor Awardee.
Dr. Karen K. Resendes, Associate Dean of Assessment and the First Year Experience, Professor of Biology at Westminster College (New Wilmington, PA), has been elected to serve as the Council on Undergraduate Research Board of Directors鈥� Treasurer for the membership year 2024-2025.
Dr. James T. LaPlant, Dean of the College of Humanities and Social Sciences for Valdosta State University (Valdosta, GA), has been elected to serve as president of the Council on Undergraduate Research for the membership year 2025-2026.

These positions assist in providing the strategic direction of CUR and represent the voice of its members while supporting CUR's mission and strategic goals.
Dr. Maria Iacullo-Bird, Assistant Provost for Research in the Office of Research and Clinical Associate Professor of History at the Dyson College of Arts and Sciences at Pace University, has been elected to serve as president of the Council on Undergraduate Research (CUR). Iacullo-Bird will become president-elect on July 1, 2023, taking a seat on CUR's Executive Board, and succeeding 2023-2024 CUR president Bethany Usher (George Mason University) in the summer of 2024.
Amid the current cultural narrative diminishing the value of higher education, a prolonged pandemic that has exacerbated inequities in so many ways, an increasing focus on workforce development, legislative mandates, and changing student populations, the importance of bridging the impact of undergraduate research, scholarship, and creative inquiry (URSCI) experiences to career readiness skills is a critical next step for the Council on Undergraduate Research (CUR) as leaders in undergraduate research.
