News — Philadelphia, PA (April 23, 2025) - Over 20 scientists from the will present their latest research at the () annual conference, which covers the latest advances in the fields of taste, smell, and related chemical senses. Overall, AChemS attendees include nearly 400 scientists, clinicians, and industry members, who will engage in science through 232 posters and 49 talks. Within those offerings Monell researchers are chairing and participating in oral presentation sessions (see below for highlights) as well as sharing close to 20 posters over three days. Several Monellians will also receive annual awards from AChemS for their research achievements, highlighted below.

Pre-meeting Symposium: Wednesday, April 23, 2025 Patient-Centered Discovery and Implementation Research in Chemosensory Health Chair/Organizer: Valentina Parma and Nancy Rawson, Monell CenterPatients’ primary goal is to find cures for smell and taste dysfunction. Their lived experience is essential to guiding the design and execution of research that accelerates progress in this field. Researchers are equally committed to discovery and implementation science that addresses patient needs, yet they often encounter systemic barriers—many of which remain invisible. As a result, the field still lacks validated, FDA-approved outcome measures for diagnosing smell and taste dysfunction—tools that reflect the patient experience and are practical for use in both clinical and research settings. Without these measures, the timely development and delivery of effective therapeutics remains out of reach. The goal is to map and align efforts across sectors to develop diagnostics and treatments that are not only scientifically sound, but also market-viable and accessible. In doing so, we can transform how chemosensory dysfunction is diagnosed, treated, and ultimately understood.
