News — In an ongoing effort to enhance community safety and prevent vehicle theft, the CSUF Police Department has partnered with the Fullerton Police Department and Hyundai to distribute free Hyundai anti-theft steering wheel locks to eligible community members.

This initiative aims to assist owners of Hyundai vehicles — model years 2011 to 2022 with a key ignition —who may be vulnerable to vehicle theft due to known security concerns. Hyundai has provided these steering wheel locks as an additional layer of protection for affected vehicle owners.

“We are committed to proactive crime prevention and community partnerships,” said Anthony Frisbee, CSUF Chief of Police. “By working with the Fullerton Police Department, we are providing residents and campus community members with tools to better protect their vehicles.”

The giveaway will occur on April 26, 2025, from noon to 2 p.m. or while supplies last in , located off of State College Boulevard. Follow the signage to obtain a steering wheel lock. Vehicle owners must bring proof of Hyundai ownership, such as the vehicle, vehicle registration, or a valid insurance card, and sign in to receive a steering wheel lock. This is a drive-thru event. Community members will not be asked to exit their vehicle to obtain a lock.

Hyundai is committed to comprehensive actions to assist customers and communities affected by the persistent thefts of certain model year 2011-2022 vehicles not equipped with push-button ignitions and engine immobilizers. Hyundai has responded with wide-ranging initiatives to enhance the security of vehicles without engine immobilizers still on the road. Chief among these measures is the development and validation of a no-cost software upgrade for the owners of these vehicles to prevent the theft mode popularized on social media. The company will install ignition cylinder protectors for eligible vehicles that cannot accommodate the software upgrade at no cost to their customers.

Community members who own an eligible Hyundai vehicle are encouraged to take advantage of this opportunity to improve their vehicle’s security. Supplies are limited and will be distributed on a first-come, first-served basis.
