News — (MEMPHIS, Tenn. – February 14, 2019) For the ninth consecutive year, Fortune magazine named St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital to the “100 Best Companies to Work For” list.

According to this year’s survey, 93 percent of St. Jude employees believe the hospital is a great place to work and 97 percent said they are proud to tell others about their work. St. Jude has more than 4,400 employees on its campus in downtown Memphis.

The annual list distinguishes companies with exceptional workplace cultures that foster employee engagement and trust. This year marks the 22nd edition of the Fortune 100 Best Companies to Work For list, and employee opinion surveys determine each company’s ranking.

“At St. Jude, it’s critical to our success that we recruit and retain the brightest and most talented individuals across scientific, clinical and administrative operations,” said James R. Downing, M.D., St. Jude president and chief executive officer. “Our dedication to employee satisfaction and well-being is integral to discovering cures and treating pediatric cancer and other catastrophic diseases.”

As part of a six-year strategic plan launched in 2015, St. Jude expects to add more than 1,000 new positions for faculty and staff. The impact of this initiative is already apparent, as more than 50 percent of employees started within the last five years.

The full list of the Top 100 companies is online at https://www.greatplacetowork.com/best-workplaces/100-best/2019, and the magazine will be on newsstands March 1.

St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital

St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital is leading the way the world understands, treats and cures childhood cancer and other life-threatening diseases. It is the only National Cancer Institute-designated Comprehensive Cancer Center devoted solely to children. Treatments developed at St. Jude have helped push the overall childhood cancer survival rate from 20 percent to 80 percent since the hospital opened more than 50 years ago. St. Jude freely shares the breakthroughs it makes, and every child saved at St. Jude means doctors and scientists worldwide can use that knowledge to save thousands more children. Families never receive a bill from St. Jude for treatment, travel, housing and food — because all a family should worry about is helping their child live.
