Neil B. Friedman, M.D., FACS, is Director of The Hoffberger Breast Center at Mercy as well as Medical Director of The Weinberg Center for Women's Health and Medicine at Mercy. As a catalyst for advancing breast cancer treatment, Dr. Friedman has partnered with many prestigious national and local organizations to improve the treatment options for women with breast cancer. Likewise, on a very personal level, he partners with each of his patients and their families to help them face the challenges and triumphs of living with a breast cancer diagnosis. Dr. Friedman led the charge to bring IORT, Intraoperative Radiotherapy, to Mercy making it the first hospital in Maryland to offer this leading-edge technology. Dr. Friedmane began his medical career as Chief Resident at the nationally renowned Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center in New York. He is a Board Certified breast cancer doctor who is dedicated to the search for a cure for cancer. His team continues to lead breast cancer initiatives and introduce best-in-practice breast care treatment options, including Intraoperative Radiotherapy (IORT), an innovative, single-dose radiation treatment, to patients. Dr. Friedman was named Humanitarian of the Year by the Mildred Mindell Cancer Foundation for his efforts in the fight against breast cancer. He has served as a national spokesperson for breast cancer prevention for major organizations such as Bath & Bodyworks. Dr. Friedman has been the Chairman of the American Cancer Society’s Research Administrative Committee, a member of its Executive and Professional Education Committees, and served on its Board of Directors. Bonni Lee Guerin, M.D. is a hematologist/oncologist and director of the Breast Cancer Treatment and Prevention Program at Overlook Medical Center, Summit, NJ where she also serves as chair of the Breast Panel, the Multidisciplinary Breast Tumor Board and director of Oncology Education. She is the principal investigator of numerous clinical trials exploring new ways to incorporate the latest advances in the management of breast cancer. She is also actively involved in the delivery of highly-specialized immunotherapy, IL-2, for the treatment of melanoma and kidney cancer. As a medical oncologist with more than 20 years of experience, Dr. Guerin is dedicated to providing the most up to date, cutting edge treatment while looking at each of her patients as an individual. Her philosophy is one of collaboration, working with all members of the care team to provide the best outcome possible. Dr. Guerin believes that compassion and being a good listener, traits she learned from her mother, help tailor a treatment plan that reflects not only the highest order of medical care, but also one that uniquely reflects each and every patient. She has recently been honored by Curemonos, a New Jersey non-profit organization dedicated to supporting medically underserved women with breast cancer, was the keynote speaker at the American Cancer Society Relay for Life in Chatham, NJ; and was honored at the Society鈥檚 2019 Diamond Ball, in Woodland Park, NJ. Dr. Priyanka Sharma is an oncologist in Fairway, Kansas and is affiliated with University of Kansas Hospital. She received her medical degree from Baroda Medical College and has been in practice between 11-20 years. Her specialties are: oncologists diagnose and treat cancers of all types. They use diagnostic tools like biopsies, endoscopies, X-ray and other imaging, nuclear medicine, and blood tests. Cancer surgeons, or surgical oncologists, remove tumors, while medical oncologists treat cancers with chemotherapy. Dr. Lynn Dengel is a board-certified and fellowship-trained surgical oncologist specializing in breast cancer and melanoma. She is an Assistant Professor in the Division of Surgical Oncology at the University of Virginia and practices as a breast and melanoma surgeon at Sentara Martha Jefferson Hospital in Charlottesville, Virginia. Dr. Dengel cares for patients in a robust multidisciplinary fashion, utilizes state of the art technology, incorporates up-to-date research findings and takes time to provide education and counseling to her patients to provide outstanding clinical care. Dr. Dengel is recognized by her peers as an expert in breast disease and melanoma. She serves as a committee member for both the Society of Surgical Oncology and the American Society of Breast Surgeons. She has authored and co-authored several articles in leading peer-reviewed publications, including the Annals of Surgical Oncology, Journal of Clinical Oncology, and Annals of Surgery. Dr. Dengel has received recognition for her outstanding research, including the Conquer Cancer Foundation of ASCO Merit Award, supported by Susan G. Komen for the Cure, and the Harvey Baker Traveling Fellow Award from the Society of Surgical Oncology. Research expertise: Dr. Dengel’s research and expertise include translational studies and clinical trials investigating the immune environment at tumor sites and mechanisms that may bolster innate immune response. She is the Principal Investigator of a clinical trial investigating focused ultrasound ablation combined with immunotherapy in advanced solid tumors. Dr. Dengel also serves as lead investigator in multiple studies investigating patient decision making, specifically aiming to improve the process of shared decision making and decreasing decisional regret for patients considering prophylactic mastectomy. Training and education: Dr. Dengel completed a breast surgery fellowship at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in New York after finishing her general surgery residency at the University of Virginia Hospital Medical Center in Charlottesville, VA, where she received the Award of Academic Excellence from the department of surgery. Dr. Dengel received her medical degree from the Georgetown University School of Medicine in Washington D.C. where she graduated cum laude and was elected to the Alpha Omega Alpha medical honor society. There are an estimated 10鈥100 trillion additional cells in this mass of microbes 鈥 roughly equal to the number of human cells in our bodies 鈥 and they are found everywhere, including the breast. Sharma will focus on one such microbe, Bacteroides fragilis, the presence of which in the breast, gut and mammary tissue is linked to a particularly aggressive form of breast cancer.

Dr. Teplinsky is a board-certified medical oncologist specializing in breast and gynecologic oncology. She is the head of breast and gynecological medical oncology at Valley-Mount Sinai Comprehensive Cancer Care in Paramus, New Jersey, and a clinical assistant professor of medicine at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai in New York.

Molly Guthrie serves as Vice President, Policy and Advocacy, where she advances Susan G. Komen’s key legislative and regulatory objectives at the federal, state, and local levels. In this capacity, she is also responsible for leading Komen’s Center for Public Policy and ensuring its work is aligned with meeting the most pressing needs of the breast cancer community. Komen’s legislative efforts focus on policy campaigns to increase funding for medical research and screening programs and ensuring access to affordable, high-quality breast health and cancer care services. In addition to working on policy campaigns, Molly’s team recruits grassroots volunteers across the country to give a personal voice to Komen’s policy and advocacy priorities. Molly joined Susan G. Komen in 2009. Prior to joining Komen, Molly attended the University of Kansas where she received her Bachelor of General Studies with an emphasis on political science and communication studies. Maryam Lustberg, MD, MPH, is Director of the Center for Breast Cancer at Smilow Cancer Hospital and Yale Cancer Center, and Chief of Breast Medical Oncology at Yale Cancer Center. She is also an Associate Professor of Medicine (Medical Oncology). She has been recognized for her patient-focused care with awards that include being rated by Forbes as one of the top breast medical oncologists in the nation and named to the Castle Connolly list of 鈥淩egional Top Doctors,鈥 and 鈥淓xceptional Women in Medicine鈥 for 2020. She is currently participating in the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) Leadership Development Program. With an emphasis on improving the long-term outcomes for patients with breast cancer who have developed side effects associated with treatment, Dr. Lustberg will continue her research efforts at Yale. She is also focused on investigating novel blood-based biomarkers to identify recurrence and treatment toxicity earlier. She is an NCI-funded investigator and active in both ALLIANCE and SWOG Cancer Cooperative Groups. Dr. Lustberg collaborates widely with researchers from around the world, thriving in creating innovative multidisciplinary scientific teams. Mehra Golshan, MD, MBA, is a cancer surgeon and a nationally and internationally recognized leader in breast cancer treatment and research. In addition to caring for patients, he serves as Deputy Chief Medical Officer for Surgical Services and Clinical Director of the Breast Cancer Program for the Yale Cancer Center, Smilow Cancer Hospital, and Smilow Cancer Hospital Care Centers. Dr. Golshan also serves as the Executive Vice Chair for Operations in the Department of Surgery and Professor of Surgical Oncology at the Yale School of Medicine. Dr. Golshan is a leader in the research with over 150 peer reviewed publications. He has led numerous Phase I, II and III clinical trials and translational science innovations impacting the treatment options and outcomes for women. He is an innovator in tailoring surgery and therapy for women with early stage breast cancer with funding support from the Breast Cancer Research Foundation and National Institutes of Health. He is the principal investigator of several phase II trials aiming to reduce the need for second surgeries or re-excisions in women with breast cancer, one of which uses innovative image-guided operating room capabilities to capture and remove all residual tumor utilizing MRI and mass spectrometry which is used at Yale鈥檚 hybrid operating room. Dr. Golshan prides himself on being an educator having trained and mentored over a hundred breast surgical fellows as well as international surgeons. He has lectured and taught surgeons, trainees and students nationally and internationally in the field of oncology and breast cancer treatment. Dr. Leonardis earned a BS in Exercise Science from Salisbury University, an MS in Exercise Science from East Carolina University, and a PhD in Kinesiology from the University of Michigan. After the completion of his doctoral studies, Dr. Leonardis completed a postdoctoral fellowship in rehabilitation engineering at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. Dr. Leonardis’s research program studies the intricate relationship between shoulder structure and function using innovative biomechanical, neuromuscular, and musculoskeletal imaging techniques. Ultimately, Dr. Leonardis aims to develop novel, evidence-based interventions for the prevention, early detection, and treatment of upper extremity pain and pathologies across the life span, with a particular interest in manual wheelchair users and individuals undergoing treatment for breast cancer.

David Rimm is the Anthony N. Brady Professor of Pathology in the Departments of Pathology and Medicine (Oncology) at the Yale University School of Medicine. He is the Director of Yale Pathology Tissue Services and the Lab for Quantitative Diagnostics in Anatomic Pathology. He completed an MD-PhD at Johns Hopkins University Medical School followed by a Pathology Residency at Yale and a Cytopathology Fellowship at the Medical College of Virginia. His research lab group focuses on quantitative pathology using the AQUA® technology invented in his lab, and other quantitative methods, with projects related to predicting response and resistance to both targeted and immune- therapy in cancer. His lab is involved in the use of new high-plex methods including digital spatial profiling (NanoString) for new biomarker discovery. He is also interested in translation of assays to the clinic and standardization of those assays for CLIA labs. The work is supported by grants from the NIH, BCRF, and sponsored research agreements from biopharma. He also serves on the CAP Immunohistochemistry committee and multiple scientific advisory boards for biotech and pharma. He is an author of over 500 peer-reviewed papers with an H-index of 120 and 8 patents.

Susan Brown serves as the Senior Director of Health Information & Publications where she oversees a team responsible for providing relevant breast cancer and breast health information to patients, caregivers, the public, and others through various channels. She provides direction and oversight in the design, development, implementation, and coordination of breast cancer and breast health messages for educational materials, programs, projects, and training. Susan ensures all breast cancer information and messaging associated with Komen is safe, accurate, current, consistent, based on scientific evidence, reader-friendly, and culturally responsive, collaborating with internal and external stakeholders for diverse audience's needs.
Prior to Komen, Susan worked as a professional registered nurse in oncology, focusing on breast cancer exclusively since 1987. As a breast cancer survivor, Susan brings a unique perspective and dedication to advancing breast health globally.
