The lab of Evan Snyder, M.D. Ph.D. at Sanford Burnham Prebys Medical Discovery Institute, is at the forefront of stem cell research,  investigating how neural stem cells can be used to treat diseases like Parkinson鈥檚 disease & Bipolar disorder.

Dr. Anderson鈥檚 research is focused on two principal goals. First, investigating the interactions of transplanted stem cell populations within the injured niche, including the role of the evolving inflammatory microenvironment in neural stem cell fate and migration decisions. This work has recently revealed a role for novel neuroimmune signaling pathway in glioblastoma stem cell biology. Second, investigating the role of inflammatory mechanisms in degeneration and regeneration in the injured CNS; particularly the role of the innate immune response and application of biomaterials to promote functional regeneration. Research in Dr. Anderson鈥檚 laboratory bridges the junction between seeking to understand mechanism at the basic neuroscience level, and identifying translational neuroscience strategies to ameliorate the cellular and histopathological deficits associated with SCI to promote recovery of function.

Julie Fitzgerald, MD, FAAP, is the division director of Pediatric Critical Care and Medical Director of the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit at Loyola University Medical Center. Dr. Fitzgerald provides care to critically ill and injured infants and children, and her practice encompasses both medical and surgical subspecialty care.  She developed a Pediatric Moderate and Deep Sedation Service, providing sedation and pain management for children undergoing radiologic imaging studies or invasive procedures outside of the operating room setting. Dr. Fitzgerald received her medical degree at the Loyola University Stritch School of Medicine, and completed both her residency and fellowship at the University of Chicago Medical Center.
