Matti Kummu is assistant professor at Aalto University, Finland. His research focuses on global water and food issues, particularly assessing the future opportunities towards water-smart food production.

The main focus of his research is the interaction between the human population and water resources. He has been working extensively on assessing the global water scarcity and how it has impacted on food production and availability. To ease the ever-growing pressure on water and land resources, They are working actively in quantifying the potential of different measures, such as diet change, food loss reduction, emerging non-meat protein sources, and yield gap closure, to sustainably increase the food availability globally. Finally, They work also on more local scale challenges and opportunities on water-energy-food nexus, particularly in the Southeast Asian context.

Ala铆 Reyes-Santos is the associate director of the PNW Just Futures Institute for Climate and Racial Justice and founding member of the Oregon Water Futures Collaborative. Since 2020, she has done extensive community engagement work with tribal members, low income, rural, and BIPOC communities on water; environmental justice researcher and community engagement experience, with an emphasis on water resources.

The author of 鈥淥ur Caribbean Kin: Race and Nation in the Neoliberal Antilles,鈥� Reyes-Santos is a cultural studies scholar devoted to the analysis of stories about kinship, solidarity, and betrayal in the midst of socio-historical violence, with an emphasis on the Black Diaspora and its connections with multiple communities. 

Her manuscript-in-progress, Oceanic Whispers, Secrets She Never Told, intervenes in conversations about restorative justice and community healing through a Black Caribbean epistemological lens. 

An award-winning teacher, Reyes-Santos received the 2015 Ersted Distinguished Teaching Award. She is a high priestess and tradition keeper of Caribbean Regla de Osha and regla conga, an Afro-descendant ceremonial practice that survived through cross-cultural exchanges in the islands; and supports efforts to revitalize Afro-Indigenous Caribbean traditional ecological and medicinal knowledges. 

Sarah Cooley鈥檚 research focuses on dynamic hydrologic change using satellite data. She is particularly interested in global water resources, Arctic surface hydrology and Arctic coastal change and its impact on communities. Her research uses new satellite technologies, including both NASA and commercial satellite data to study a wide range of topics including global water storage variability, shorefast sea ice breakup, Arctic lake area dynamics, and pan-Arctic river ice breakup. She has also participated in numerous field campaigns across Greenland, Northern Canada and Alaska. Her current research is funded by NASA Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA). Among her many accolades, Cooley was a Gates Cambridge Scholar and a NASA New Investigators Program in Earth Science Awardee. 

Cooley has a PhD in Earth, Environmental and Planetary Sciences from Brown University, an MPhil in Polar Studies from the University of Cambridge and a BS in geophysics from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill where she was a Morehead-Cain Scholar. She was a postdoctoral scholar in the Department of Earth System Science at Stanford University as part of the inaugural cohort of Stanford Science Fellows.

Dr. Boving is a Professor of Environmental Hydrogeology in the University of Rhode Island College of the Environment and Life Sciences with a join appointment in the College of Engineering Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering and Geosciences. His research focuses on the fate, transport, and remediation of organic and inorganic pollutants from point- and non-point sources. He is specifically interested in water treatment, soil and groundwater remediation and water resources in developing countries - including attenuating the adverse effects of stormwater runoff from roads and urbanized areas. Boving is a recipient of a prestigious Fulbright-Nehru Academic and Professional Excellence Award sponsored by the U.S. State Department鈥檚 United States-India Educational Foundation. He is currently teaching at the Indian Institute of Technology Roorkee, one of the oldest and most renowned technical institutions in South Asia, while conducting research on technologies aimed at cleaning up polluted groundwater and soil.
