He has spent over 30 years researching and advising in the areas of thermoregulation, environmental and occupational physiology and survival in the sea. He has published over 400 scientific papers, reports, chapters and books in these areas. Professor Tipton is a consultant in survival and thermal medicine to the Royal Air Force and UKSport; he sits on the Royal National Lifeboat Institution’s Medical & Survival Committee, Surf Lifesaving GB’s medical and research advisory panel and the Ectodermal Dysplasia Society’s medical advisory board. He Chairs UKSport’s Research Advisory Group which oversees all medical and technological research undertaken with and for Team GB’s athletes. Professor Tipton provides advice to a range of universities, government departments, industries, medical, search and rescue and media organizations.

Research interests: Galaxy formation and evolution. Galaxy kinematics. Galaxy morphologies. Citizen Science (especially in Astronomy). Karen's interests are in the area of extragalactic astronomy. She studies how galaxies formed and evolve in our universe using data from large surveys like the Sloan Digital Sky Survey. She is the Project Scientist for Galaxy Zoo and often uses information on galaxy shapes and types collected from this citizen science project in her research.

Dr Peter Lee is a University of Portsmouth Reader in Politics and Ethics who specializes in the ethical and operational aspects of remotely piloted aircraft (drone) operations, as well as the politics and ethics of war and military intervention. He writes in various formats with a particular focus on the UK’s Royal Air Force Reaper drone squadrons. Between July and December 2016 he was granted unprecedented research access by the Royal Air Force to British Reaper drone operations at both RAF Waddington in Lincolnshire, UK and Creech Air Force Base outside Las Vegas, Nevada. He was able to observe both surveillance and lethal missile strikes against Islamic State jihadists in Syria and Iraq: in real time and in close-up detail. He has also conducted in-depth interviews with 70 members of the Royal Air Force Reaper drone community for his next book, Reaper Force: The Inside Story of Britain’s Drone Wars. Peter is regularly invited to lecture on this and other subjects to military, academic, political, religious, media and wider audiences. From June 2015 to June 2016 he was a member of the Department for Transport Oversight Committee for the Sciencewise public dialogue: The Use and Development of Remotely Piloted Aircraft Systems and Small Drones in the United Kingdom, which preceded the current government consultation on drones. In 2012 he published Blair’s Just War: Iraq and the Illusion of Morality and in 2015 published Truth Wars: The Politics of Climate Change, Military Intervention and Financial Crisis, both with Palgrave Macmillan.

Neil B. Friedman, M.D., FACS, is Director of The Hoffberger Breast Center at Mercy as well as Medical Director of The Weinberg Center for Women's Health and Medicine at Mercy. As a catalyst for advancing breast cancer treatment, Dr. Friedman has partnered with many prestigious national and local organizations to improve the treatment options for women with breast cancer. Likewise, on a very personal level, he partners with each of his patients and their families to help them face the challenges and triumphs of living with a breast cancer diagnosis. Dr. Friedman led the charge to bring IORT, Intraoperative Radiotherapy, to Mercy making it the first hospital in Maryland to offer this leading-edge technology. Dr. Friedmane began his medical career as Chief Resident at the nationally renowned Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center in New York. He is a Board Certified breast cancer doctor who is dedicated to the search for a cure for cancer. His team continues to lead breast cancer initiatives and introduce best-in-practice breast care treatment options, including Intraoperative Radiotherapy (IORT), an innovative, single-dose radiation treatment, to patients. Dr. Friedman was named Humanitarian of the Year by the Mildred Mindell Cancer Foundation for his efforts in the fight against breast cancer. He has served as a national spokesperson for breast cancer prevention for major organizations such as Bath & Bodyworks. Dr. Friedman has been the Chairman of the American Cancer Society’s Research Administrative Committee, a member of its Executive and Professional Education Committees, and served on its Board of Directors. He has also been involved with the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation. Armando Sardi, M.D., is a respected and renowned Surgical Oncologist who has been honored as a Top Doc in Baltimore magazine multiple times. Laxmi Mehta, M.D., FACC, FAHA is the Director of the Women’s Cardiovascular Health Program and an Associate Professor of Medicine at The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center. Dr. Mehta is also the Associate Program Director for Education for Ohio State’s Center for Women’s Health. She is the President of the Ohio Chapter of the American College of Cardiology and has previously served two terms as Secretary/Treasurer for the Ohio-ACC Chapter. Additionally, she is the Immediate Past President of the metro Columbus Board of Directors for the American Heart Association and now currently serves on the Great Rivers Affiliate Board for the American Heart Association. She sits on several national committees for both the American College of Cardiology and the American Heart Association. Dr. Mehta was chosen by Business First Magazine as one of Columbus' Top 40 under 40 in 2010 and honored as one of 12 women for the 2012 Women for Economic Leadership (WELD) Women You Should Know Calendar Honoree. She specializes in women’s cardiovascular health, prevention and cardiac imaging. Dr. Mehta is an avid promoter and educator on women’s cardiovascular health and has published a number of peer-reviewed articles and book chapters. Pradeep K. Khosla Chancellor, University of California San Diego Pradeep K. Khosla, UC San Diego’s eighth Chancellor, is an internationally renowned electrical and computer engineer recognized for his seminal contributions in intelligent robot systems and design. He provides vision and strategy for the university, leading a campus with more than 35,000 students, six undergraduate colleges, five academic divisions, five graduate and professional schools, a preeminent Health System and the prestigious Scripps Institution of Oceanography. He is an Honorary Fellow of the Indian Academy of Science. The recipient of numerous awards for his leadership, teaching and research, Khosla has received the 2012 Light of India Award, a Lifetime Achievement Award from the American Society of Mechanical Engineers, and the George Westinghouse Award for contributions to improve engineering teaching. In 2012, he was named as one of the 50 most influential Indian-Americans by SiliconIndia. Khosla received his bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology - Kharagpur in 1980, and his M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in electrical and computer engineering in 1984 and 1986 at Carnegie Mellon. In 2014, he received an honorary doctorate of science from the Indian Institute of Technology - Kharagpur.

John-Paul Rue, M.D., is a fellowship-trained Board Certified orthopedic sports medicine surgeon, specializing in arthroscopic repair of sports-related injuries, including complex knee and shoulder reconstructions with Orthopedics and Joint Replacement at Mercy. Dr. John-Paul Rue specializes in the prevention and treatment of injuries related to sports and exercise. He treats patients of all ages, serving athletes ranging from the casual jogger or weekend warrior to competitive and collegiate athletes and beyond. His primary focus is treating injuries of the knee, shoulder, and elbow, from ACL tears, meniscus and cartilage injuries to shoulder instability and rotator cuff injuries. He also sees patients with injuries such as overuse tendonitis, ankle sprains, and fractures. As an orthopedic surgeon and sports medicine specialist, Dr. Rue is able to diagnose and treat a wide variety of acute and overuse injuries utilizing both surgical and non-operative techniques. He works closely with colleagues and rehabilitation specialists to guide patients through the recovery process, recommend related strength and conditioning exercises and offer return-to-play insight and guidelines. Deborah A. Pasko, Pharm.D., M.H.A., is the Sr. Director of Medication Safety and Quality at ASHP (American Society of Health-System Pharmacists). With more than 22 years of pharmacy practice experience, Dr. Pasko leads ASHP鈥檚 efforts to improve medication safety and reduce opioid misuse. 

Dr. Pasko鈥檚 role at ASHP includes working with the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), the National Institutes of Health (NIH), the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), and the White House on national medication safety initiatives. She also serves as an advisor to the Institute for Safe Medication Practices (ISMP), the Joint Commission (TJC), the United States Pharmacopeia (USP) National Coordinating Council for Medication Error Reporting and Prevention (NCC-MERP) safety committee, and the National Quality Forum (NQF). 

Dr. Pasko earned her Bachelor of Pharmacy degree from the Ohio Northern University College of Pharmacy and her Doctor of Pharmacy degree from Idaho State University College of Pharmacy. She has a Masters of Health Administration from the Walden University School of Health Sciences and completed a fellowship in Nephrology and Critical Care at the University of Michigan College of Pharmacy. Dr. Pasko has received numerous awards including the Cheers Award for Medication Safety.

Board certified rheumatologist and a clinical scientist whose area of research is in both the pharmacological and non-pharmacological management of persistent pain. Dr. Ang has been the primary investigator of three National Institute of Health (NIH)-funded clinical trials in fibromyalgia. He has approximately 25 publications in peer reviewed journals in arthritis and pain. Dr. Ang has served as an ad hoc reviewer for NIH, and also a reviewer of research abstracts for the American College of Rheumatology (ACR). He is an active member of both the ACR and the American Pain Society.

Spangler is one of the world's leading experts in tobacco epidemiology and was the keynote speaker for 2004 World Health Organization Tobacco and Community Health Conference in New Delhi, India. He founded the first physician-run tobacco-cessation clinic in North Carolina and was recently awarded $1.6 million grant to develop tobacco cessation curriculum for medical schools across the United States. He has won several prestigious awards including the Association of Teachers of Preventative Medicine Program of the Year Award and the Behavioral Sciences Forum Program of the Year Award. He is currently co-Principal Investigator on a longitudinal study of tobacco use among students at 11 colleges and universities in NC and VA.

Dr. Christopher Ohl is an infectious disease specialist in Winston Salem, North Carolina and is affiliated with multiple hospitals in the area, including Wake Forest Baptist Health-Lexington Medical Center and Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center. He received his medical degree from University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health and has been in practice for more than 20 years. 

Dr. Bennett is a board-certified orthopedic surgeon, fellowship-trained in sports medicine, with more than 20 years of orthopedic surgery experience. He has provided medical care to teams at every athletic level, most recently serving as the director of sports medicine at the University of Maryland, where he was the team orthopedic surgeon for University of Maryland athletics. He has treated a number of NFL and Division 1 college athletes, helping them return successfully to their sports.

Dr. Christina Li received her medical degree from the Columbia College of Physicians and Surgeons. She completed her residency in general surgery at the University of Maryland and was also a research fellow at the Maryland Center for Videoscopic Surgery. She completed a fellowship in minimally invasive and bariatric surgery at the University of Pennsylvania. She has been performing bariatric surgery for LifeBridge Health since 2004 and is a founding member of Sinai Hospital's Bariatric Center for Excellence. 

Dr. Abrams has practiced at Sinai Hospital of Baltimore for more than 30 years. He has been chairman of ophthalmology at the Krieger Eye Institute at Sinai for more than a decade. Dr. Abrams earned his undergraduate degree from Lehigh University, attended medical school at the Medical College of Pennsylvania, completed his residency at Sinai Hospital of Baltimore and his fellowship at Dohney Eye Institute, USC in glaucoma. 

McMichael has published numerous articles and book chapters on the subjects of scalp and hair disorders and quality of life issues surrounding disorders of pigmentation. She is listed in Best Doctors in America and is a diplomat of the American Board of Dermatology. McMichael has served on several editorial review boards and is a contributing editor for Cosmetic Dermatology as well as a contributing editor for reviews in The Dermatologist.

Dr. Frazier completed a neurosurgical residency at the Johns Hopkins Hospital after earning a medical degree from the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine and an undergraduate degree magna cum laude from Brown University in Providence, Rhode Island. As a medical student, Dr. Frazier received the Hunterian Medical Student Research Award for his work on interstitial chemotherapy for brain tumors. During his training, Dr. Frazier completed specialized fellowships in neuro-oncology and radiosurgery.
