News — Heather Kligfeld, DO, an expert in bone marrow failure syndromes, joined the Center for Cancer and Blood Disorders after completing her fellowship at Lurie Children’s. Dr. Kligfeld will lead a multidisciplinary bone marrow failure clinic and is the Lead Principal Investigator for Benign Hematological Diseases for the Pediatric Hematology, Oncology, Neuro Oncology and Stem Cell Transplant Biorepository. She is passionate about comprehensive evaluations of patients with these complex and rare disorders and providing appropriate surveillance, treatment, and prevention of complications.
Throughout her training, Dr. Kligfeld’s research was primarily centered on investigating the role of HMCES, a DNA damage repair protein, in stress hematopoiesis using mouse models. The focus of her research has given her a particular expertise in DNA damage, molecular repair mechanisms, and the intricacies of the hematopoietic system. She aspires to collaborate with PhDs to optimize basic science research to develop new therapeutic interventions for the bone marrow failure syndromes. Dr. Kligfeld is an Assistant Professor of Pediatrics at Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine.
Samantha Scanlon, MD, brings expertise in the care of general hematology patients, as well as a particular interest in the emerging field of immunohematology. She is eager to lead and support the development of a multidisciplinary immunohematology program and to provide comprehensive care to this patient population.
During her training, Dr. Scanlon’s research focused on medical education and understanding how learning theories are considered in the development and implementation of fellowship curricula, with a goal of identifying opportunities to improve fellow education. Dr. Scanlon hopes to continue to develop her career as a clinician-educator through ongoing involvement with graduate medical education. She is an Assistant Professor of Pediatrics at Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine.
Maggie Seblani, DO, MPH, recently joined the Brain Tumor Program, bringing expertise in the treatment of central nervous system tumors. She completed at Lurie Children’s her fellowship in pediatric hematology oncology, followed by an advanced fellowship in pediatric neuro-oncology. Dr. Seblani is an Assistant Professor of Pediatrics at Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine.
