News — Washington D.C. – IAFNS celebrates its fourth anniversary of catalyzing food safety and nutrition science to benefit public health.
The milestone comes as North Americans are taking a closer look at their food systems. Driven by a focus on health and wellness, consumers and researchers increasingly want to know where food comes from and how it is made. There are growing calls for reduced sodium and sugar, a better understanding of fiber’s role in our diets, advances in food microbiological safety, and reducing exposure to harmful metals.
These concerns underscore the critical role has played over the last four years by leveraging the contributions of members across academia, government and industry. Our mission to catalyze science in support of public health has never been more relevant. We are proud to convene leaders across the food and beverage ecosystem, foster essential conversations, and drive high-quality research that directly impacts everyday health and wellness.
Since our launch in 2021, IAFNS has supported 82 in the peer-reviewed literature, been in the each month, and reached tens of thousands of food safety and nutrition professionals through conferences, Op-Eds, and scientific programs.
IAFNS prioritizes the topics that matter most to consumers about the food they buy, eat, and share with their families. These include sodium, low- and no-calorie sweeteners, fiber, food microbiology, food processing and heavy metals. Guided by our core values of scientific integrity, transparency, collaboration and public benefit, IAFNS provides the evidence base for confident decision-making by all sectors.
IAFNS also embraces the next generation through its Summer Research Opportunity Fellows for graduate students to learn how IAFNS’ tripartite research improves relevance, utility and rigor in food safety and nutrition sciences. The science IAFNS catalyzes has been cited in public comments to federal agencies and international bodies like Codex Alimentarius.
For four years IAFNS has played a vital role in shaping the trajectory of health and wellness in North America and the future of the global food system. As a convener of diverse perspectives and a catalyst for multi-sector collaboration, we are dedicated to advancing food safety and nutrition research. By mobilizing our partners and driving actionable insights, we are working toward a healthier, more informed society.
